I have never used the restricted driver tool so I am not a lot of help
here.  One thing I would check to see is if the nvidia driver is loaded:
lsmod |grep nvidia

if it is not, can you load it:
sudo modprobe nvidia

If there are errors they may be useful.  Your best bet is to check with
the Ubuntu forums.

On my laptop I am using version 177-80 that I installed manually from
the NVIDIA-Linux-x86-177.80-pkg1.run file I downloaded from nvidia.com.

Personally I am sticking with 8.04 until the RT kernel issues are sorted.
