I really understand your frustration - I have been through such
situations several times. BUT: as of now I have managed to wait for the
temper to cool down before posting on a list...

So let us talk business:

What do you see in the MIDI-Panel of Qjackctl (in the Connections-Window)?

Could it be, that you choosed a MIDI-Driver in the Setup-Window of
Qjackctl (lower left, new button)?

You should also change the idiotic "users are stupids that do not want
to see technical stuff on a computer"-behavior of the boot-process. If
you disable the hilarious "quiet"-parameter in /boot/grub/menu.lst (use
a text editor as root - removing the word "quiet" in the file will do),
you get messages regarding the start of the MIDI-system as your machine
starts.

Tell us what these are so we can pin-point the trouble...

The tendency to hide any technical information from the user leads to
frustration like this. So there is absolutely NO reason to bash someone
for being frustrated because he/she sees, that something does not work
but is not informed what could cause the trouble.

If we want Ubuntu to behave like MacOSX we will get many many more of
posts like this.

best regards
