2 safe oldies : Emagic 2/6 and 6/2, and EGO-SYS A2U a tiny box that served
me good.Just look for a sound card which common USB driver are already in
the actual Kernel.
A tip: if you use turntables with timecoded vinyls a soundcard with mic or
guitar preamp will let you use that input without RIIA preamp (valid for Ms
Pinky, probably for all systems)

about speakers: i remember a pair of small Creative that sounded pretty good
for the price.Avoid 2.1 systems they suck for hifi-monitoring !
