If I'm not mistaken, it looks, from the product blurb at sony.com,
like you can use this camera as an ordinary storage device, in which
case you should simply be able to plug it in and browse the disk using
a normal file browser such as nautilus. If this is the case you might
still need to change one of the camera settings in order to enable
this function.

On the other hand if I'm wrong, and no one else here knows the answer
to your question, you might be able to get a better answer at the
video4linux mailing list (I can't remember the web address for it off
the top of my head, but I know it's hosted by redhat).

P.S. Please don't feel you have to apologise for being a "noob". Your
question was a very reasonable. No one should ever to apologise for
not having an MSc in computer science.
