emacs eating idle cpu (100% usage)

Hi all,

First off, Ubuntu Studio has been the most stable and useful platform for my
multimedia and programming necessities that I have used so far, so thanks
for everyone's hard work!

One problem I am having:  emacs21 eats up all the idle cpu, thereby slowing
my computer and killing the battery.  does anyone know a fix for this?  I
also use a few additional packages, such as ecb and org-mode, but it uses
100% whether in these modes or not.

the emacs version is: GNU Emacs 22.0.91.1 (i486-pc-linux-gnu, GTK+ Version
2.10.6)
