IMO it doesn't matter if we need to use an additional application or if
we directly could scan using GIMP or what ever app we're using. Decisive
IMO is the scanning quality to quickness ratio.

I don't own a scanner myself and visit friends using different Microsoft
and Apple solutions, if I need a scan. Not seldom the fast scans by
amateur equipment and default software are better than slow scans using
professional gear, with professional software. Likely my professional
friends are not aware how to set up their professional hardware and
software correctly ;), but it doesn't matter to me. If I need a scan I
prefer to visit a social pedagogue, than a graphic designer. The scans
are faster and have a better quality by default.

IOW what application can be used more intuitive and does provide good
results?
