Hello to all who read me!

Just a quick note, reporting of two discussions I had on IRC with m-c,
to share them with you on the list.
It would be nice to get some more feedback of your activities in here,
and why not invite other ubuntero students in, to concretely work on our
mission of involving students in LoCos and Ubuntu...

[15:27:22] <pep> we organized an ubuntu course and install party just
two weeks ago
[15:27:25] <pep> at liège university
[15:27:53] <m-c> was it effective in our mission to encourage students
to participate in Ubuntu LoCos and LUGs ?
[15:28:17] <pep> it was not the hoped success because we worked with the
student society of the engineer students, they really sucked on public
relations, which was their main role!!! informing the students, etc...
[15:28:20] <pep> but it was ok
[15:28:56] <pep> we installed maybe 10 ubuntu's, each user was very
happy, got every single application to work that they needed
[15:29:14] <pep> we will be organizing a more publizixed event after the
exams
[15:29:27] <pep> and are working on a blog/FOSS community for the campus
[15:29:48] <pep> one of them was very interested in joining ubuntu-be
[15:30:38] <pep> so we still have to work on a strong infrastructure
here, we are by the number of 2 very active I'd say...
[15:30:49] <pep> maybe three
[15:31:00] <pep> so got still some work before us :)
[15:31:21] <pep> I'll communicate some photos of the presentation when I
get them
[15:32:06] <m-c> congratulations on your project's success.

[19:21:35] <pep> hoi =)
[19:22:55] <m-c> Heya, pep, how goes it there?
[19:23:57] <pep> hey m-c fine :)
[19:24:08] <pep> I jsut got 65 "powered by ubuntu" stickers
[19:24:15] <pep> got an install party the 5th july
[19:24:27] <pep> just passed at the local pub, where the guy uses
xubuntu and amarok
[19:24:46] <pep> he was pleased to stick a small one on the screen and a
big one (delivered with the CDs) just under it :)
[19:24:56] <pep> so now everybody sees a big ubuntu when going into the bar
[19:25:17] <pep> we are working on a project to involve students in FOSS
[19:25:42] <pep> we are currently setting up the core group, still need
one person and we're off
[19:26:37] <pep> going to set up a communitary blog, "studentech", made
by students and for students, aiming to inform other students about the
possibilities and interest they have in FOSS, as well as build up a real
community on the campus and the city...
[19:26:55] <pep> but it is a _big_ project, so we are doing this slowly
and with organisation
[19:27:02] <pep> no precipitating things ;)
[19:35:43] <pep> but it is certain that it will be put through
[19:35:48] <pep> all steps have been thought of
[19:35:59] <pep> we have a clear plan of things todo, and in which order
[19:36:10] <pep> still working on getting the core team together though

The aim is not to compete in "who does the most", but merely share ideas
and experience. Here I can tell you that counting on engineers for
public relations is bad. :-D And more seriously, we are setting up this
communitary blog project now. I will report further advancement in some
weeks, so you can keep track of it. :)

wishing you all a bright day,
Pierre Vorhagen,
pep.
