Title:
[SRU] Nautilus send mail not working

Status in Nautilus:
  New
Status in nautilus package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Committed
Status in nautilus source package in Noble:
  New

Bug description:
  Impact
  ------
nautilus-sendto is installed by default in Noble but it is not being used in nautilus since nautilus dropped the code that used the extension[1] in favor use the xdg-desktop-portal interface instead.

The issue is that the portal can’t be used to attach files to
thunderbird because the desktop portal constructs an mailto: url with
an attachment= but thunderbird upstream explicitly decided to not
allow adding files from an URL for security reasons. As such, when the
user tries the "Email" button in the file context menu of Nautilus,
Thunderbird launches without any attached file.

Check also bug report on Nautilus[2] and rejected special casing for
  Thunderbird on the portal[3].

  Test plan
  ---------
  *Ensure that nautilus-sendto is installed.
*Set Thunderbird as the default mail client if it is not already.
  *Open Nautilus.
*Select a single or a number of files.
  *Right click on the selection.
  *Click "email".

Expected: A Thunderbird email composition window opens and the
selected files are listed as attachments at the bottom of the window.

  Regression potential
  --------------------
The original logic must remain unaltered for the case nautilus-sendto is not installed.

  Original report
  ---------------
  Hi,
After upgrade from 22.04 to 22.10 Send an attached file to email from nautilus is not working anymore.
Menu sendmail ( courriel in french) appears when i right click on file , then thunderbird appears but without the attachement . It was working very well with previous releases .
