Please use the format described in the debhelper(7) manpage[1], which is:

Build-Depends: debhelper-compat (= 12)

And remove the old debian/compat file (which currently lists 12) (see "Note that you must use either..." in that COMPATIBILITY LEVELS section of the manpage).

We will revisit this when the SRU time comes.
