Thank you for working on this and helping to make Ubuntu better!

This seems like the sort of change we wouldn't want to make unilaterally in Ubuntu. Can I suggest that you coordinate with ncurses upstream and ask them to consider taking this first? It looks like you can do that here: https://invisible-island.net/ncurses/ncurses.faq.html#report_bugs

Since we don't usually carry this kind of patch exclusive from upstreams, I'm going to mark this proposal as rejected in the sense that we won't patch Ubuntu specifically for this right now. But if upstream accept the change, then a future version of Ubuntu will contain it by default.
