Kubuntu 16.04.1 discover empty after fresh install

Status in plasma-discover package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
  Also reported at (https://github.com/hughsie/PackageKit/issues/177)

I tried discover just after installing Kubuntu 16.04.1 LTS, and some software was being displayed, but search was not working. I tried to install muon, and did some software update (which seemed to work fine), and after that discover would not display any software at all. Updates still work. Muon works fine, except that search stops working after a while.
There are display issues on top of that, but that is not the worst problem. Having the default software used for installing software on Kubuntu fail completely is a rather big issue...
I tried uninstalling plasma-discover and muon, purging them, and reinstalling them, but that did not change anything. The current version is plasma-discover 5.6.2.

Is there anything I can do to work around the bug ?

This is the output I get when starting it from the CLI:
