Title:
[regression] MPV fails to use hardware acceleration (vaapi) on Intel
graphics, starting in mpv 0.27 (bionic)
Status in mpv package in Ubuntu:
Fix Committed
Bug description:
MPV fails to use hardware acceleration (vaapi) on Intel graphics,
starting in mpv 0.27 (bionic).
It's appears the required /etc/mpv/mpv.conf is present, but the line
"hwdec=auto" is failing to try vaapi. It bails when it finds Nvidia
CUDA doesn't work, and just decides to use software instead.
This is related to an issue that's come up before (bug 1728514 ?). The
simple fix should be to use hwdec=vaapi instead. That will re-enable
acceleration on Intel GPUs and also fix Nvidia GPUs failing to display
video in some cases (they will get software playback instead of broken
CUDA options).
