Title:
  empty monitor, serial, parallel with -curses with TERM=xterm-256color

Status in qemu package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  my (believed default) ubuntu installation has 'TERM=xterm-256color'
  when in a gnome-terminal.

  when i run 'qemu-system-x86_64 -curses' from that environment, the monitor and serial and parallel "consoles" do not have anything on them. Example:
    $ TERM=xterm-256color qemu-system-x86_64 -curses
    # hit 'alt-2' you'll nothing.k this should be the monitor
    # you can type 'quit' there blindly and it will do what you asked.
    # hit 'alt-3' and that shoudl be serial console.

  to see it working, just try:
    $ TERM=xterm qemu-system-x86_64 -curses
    # hit 'alt-2', 'alt-3', 'alt-4' and see it all working.

  Alternatively, running under 'screen' or 'tmux' or 'byobu' will set
  term to some other value ('screen') and that will work also.

  Easy workaround if you know it, but not if you dont.
