I'm the upstream author of the Armadillo library.

I strongly recommend updating Ubuntu's Armadillo package to version
4.400.2.

The reasoning is as follows.  Armadillo versions 4.300 and 4.320 had a
dependency on HDF5.  The updated HDF5 package in Debian (which has been
imported into Ubuntu 14.10) contains API breaking changes (ie. its use
is different than in Ubuntu 14.04).

The API changes in the HDF5 package(s) have caused problems with
Armadillo, preventing compilation/usage of Armadillo based programs.

In Armadillo version 4.400.2 I've incorporated a workaround for the HDF5
problem.  Without an update to Armadillo version 4.400.2, the Armadillo
package in Ubuntu will not work correctly.  As such, an update to
Armadillo version 4.400.2 is necessary.
