Status in “shimmer-themes” package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released

Bug description:
  the background of the dialog is supposed to be gray with white text
  not whiteish with white text

  i have reproduced this on 3 systems today

  this seems to be a acceptable workaround

  sudo sed -i 's/Greybird/Blackbird/' /etc/lightdm/lightdm-gtk-
  greeter.conf
