Ian Lane has beat you to doing a similar patch on 25/09. You may not have noticed it, due it probably being stuck in the unapproved queue.

Title:
  libproxy FTBFS in quantal

Status in “libproxy” package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released

Bug description:
libproxy fail to build from source in quantal, missing inclusion of
  unistd.h.

  https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+archive/test-
  rebuild-20120922/+build/3826942

This does not affect debian, as it use 0.3.1-5 and inlucdes unistd.h
  properly.
