I agree, it gets high time to switch these over. Testing now.

** Changed in: sane-backends (Ubuntu)
   Importance: Medium => High

** Changed in: sane-backends-extras (Ubuntu)
   Importance: Undecided => High

Title:
  Migrate sane-backends to libusb 1.0.x

Status in “sane-backends” package in Ubuntu:
  New
Status in “sane-backends-extras” package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
  SANE in Ubuntu is currently built using libusb 0.1.x. This library is
  deprecated and not maintained upstream any more. The up-to-date
  version is 1.0.x. SANE even supports the new library upstream, it only
  needs to be built with it. So I ask for swittching it over. Should
  only need a command line option for "./configure" in debian/rules and
  a change of the build dependencies in debian/control.

  This is also better for Precise LTS, to avoid needing 5 years of
  support for an unmaintained library.

  SANE with libusb 0.1.x is insane.
