Thanks Maarten!

The symbol updates look a bit strange. I wonder why Debian doesn't have
them? It's the very same upstream version. Also, the versions should not
have the ubuntu revision in them, just the upstream version when they
got introduced. I propose to back out the *.symbols changes for now, and
if they are desired and needed they can go into a new bug?

Bug description:
  It contains a few (small) bugfixes, two old Ubuntu patches are applied
  in Debian and my new patches to fix bug #902339 got accepted in
  Debian.
