Title:
  fwts segfaults executing the msr test in a kvm instance when using
  Precise as the host OS

Status in “fwts” package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released

Bug description:
  While running fwts in a kvm instance I've noticed I see a GPF and fwts
  segfaults. This only occurs while running in KVM, and only appears to
  be an issue when the host OS is running Precise:

  $ wget http://hwe.ubuntu.com/fwts-live/images/fwts-live-oneiric-amd64-usb-hdd-20111217-0.img.bz2
  $ bzip2 -d fwts-live-oneiric-amd64-usb-hdd-20111217-0.img.bz2
  $ sudo kvm -m 512 -hda fwts-live-oneiric-amd64-usb-hdd-20111217-0.img --vga vmware
     [ change FWTS_AUTO_SHUTDOWN=1 to =0 in syslinux, boot, execute all batch tests, note the GPF, exit the interface ]
  $ sudo sysctl -w kernel.printk=0
  $ sudo fwts msr
     [ note the segfault ]

  See the attached screenshot from qemu:
   * http://ubuntuone.com/3vaBDmoNJqHB9S8wpelpXh

  This has been verified on the latest Precise kernel (3.2.0-12), and
  fwts 0.24.17)

  The host OS logs the following errors once the msr tests are executed
  inside the kvm instance:
