Sorry for filing a sync request. On incorporating ubuntu features now it qualifies for merge request.
The debdiff with this attachment can be used on current debian release for merging. This debdiff imports all the changes required from ubuntu + it has the new changes from debian.

Title:
  Merge conky 1.8.0-1.1 (universe) from Debian unstable (contrib)

Status in “conky” package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
  Please sync conky 1.8.0-1.1 (universe) from Debian unstable (contrib)

  Explanation of the Ubuntu delta and why it can be dropped:
  The debian version builds fine on ubuntu oneiric.

  Changelog entries since current oneiric version 1.8.0-1ubuntu1:

  conky (1.8.0-1.1) unstable; urgency=medium

    * Non-maintainer upload.
    * debian/patches/70b6f35a.patch:
      - Cherrypick a patch from upstream to avoid rewriting an arbitrary
        user file (Closes: #612033).
