Explanation of the Ubuntu delta and why it can be dropped:
FTBFS patches has been applied in Debian, so we can sync
Changelog entries since current oneiric version 2.3-1ubuntu1:

* debian/{patches/03_build-with-gcc44,rules}
- Removed configure.in patch, replaced with LDFLAG in debian/rules,
