I agree with Bhavani, if upstream is dead, removal is probably a good
idea.

If not, your changelog entry needs work: "Fix FTBFS binutils-gold with
ld --no-add-needed"

How about: "Explicitly link to necessary libraries, fixes FTBFS with ld
--no-add-needed".

You should also build-depend on libraries that you are linking to.
