Title:
Upgrade to OpenAFS 1.6.0
Status in “openafs” package in Ubuntu:
Incomplete
Bug description:
The current OpenAFS 1.4.x series is showing its age, and upstream’s
attention to this branch is stagnating. For example, as of now,
support for kernel 2.6.38 is only available for 1.6.x (see bug
#675768).
I’ve been using the 1.5.x/1.6.x client from ppa:openafs/master on my
laptop for almost a year (on lucid, maverick and natty), a production
web server (hardy), and a heavily loaded remote login server (lenny),
and it’s worked well. Now that a stable 1.6.0 release is weeks away,
I think this is the right time to give it wider testing in natty. If
that means we also happen to get a package that builds at all against
natty’s kernel, well, that’s a happy coincidence. :-)
