There were some files dropped from the Debian dir that are not mentioned in the changelog, I"m wondering if these changes were intentional or not:
libgearman-doc.doc-base.api
libgearman-doc.doc-base.dev

Also, the make docs was dropped from debian/rules, same question

Bug description:
  There is a new upstream release, gearmand 0.17, available from
  upstream at https://launchpad.net/gearmand.

  I'm working on Debian packaging of "mod_gearmand" for Nagios/Icinga,
  this needs at least version 0.14 of gearmand.

  Please let me know if I can assist with packaging in any way.
