That's right, 1.5-3 package built fine. However, there includes a new upstream release. Please check whether it implements new features. If yes, please follow with https://wiki.ubuntu.com/FreezeExceptionProcess.

Please sync mpfi 1.5-3 (universe) from Debian unstable (main)

The mpfi maverick version FTBFS, and the new Debian version builds well
in maverick pbuilder chroot.
