This already got applied! A duplicate bug was opened (bug 275243) with
the same change and it got applied in time for 10.04. I'm going to mark
this bug a duplicate of the other one (even though it was the other way
around) because that's the bug that got used.

Status in “apt” package in Ubuntu: Confirmed
Bug description:
Binary package hint: update-manager
If you run update-manager you can see the progress of the amount data that is downloaded:
44% [2 gnome-games-data 4966352/9902kB 50%] 421kB/s 15s
using bytes and kB or MB is not consistent.
Since update-manager itself is using kB or MB the progress of the downloaded bytes should be in kB or MB too, to be consistent with the total size of the package.
