@Geoff : Thank you very much for your great job, it works very well for
me (Lucid64) :)

But I think these great changes will be erased with the next Evolution update ? :'(
I wish you will update the version number for the next update, because it would be easier to install your patches :P

About the patches I only see one minor minor bug : When clicking on the
evolution link in the indicator-applet, the evolution window appears
with a reducted left part (accounts list), even if the part has been
manually well resized before.

Bug description:
Among all applications currently integrated with the indicator-applet (Empathy/Pidgin, Evolution, Gwibber), Evolution is the only one without a close-to-tray functionality. This is inconsistent as it forces the user to leave it open in order to use the indicator-applet properly. Close-to-tray functionality has been implemented for Evolution before, so I guess it's possible:
