aexl, excellent! If you or someone else want to try to get this into
Lucid as well, see https://wiki.ubuntu.com/StableReleaseUpdates
The meaning of "fix committed" is not perfectly coherent over all
packages and teams, but I see it largely as "the fix will end up in the
next Ubuntu version one way or another without anyone having to do
anything more about it" which I think is the case here.

A background silent update process shouldn't use 98% CPU. It makes system sluggish with no visible reason.
