This bug affects the upstream Empathy only, which uses its own
notification icon. In Ubuntu the problem does not exist anymore because
it has since been integrated with the indicator applet.

Status in “empathy” package in Ubuntu: New

Bug description:
When there are unread messages, the empathy notification area icon starts blinking and blinks forever until I click on it. This is annoying and obnoxious and distracts me from whatever I am doing.

When a message arrives, the icon might change to indicate me of unread messages. Additionally, an ignoreable notify bubble might appear, showing me what the message is about and from whom. Whatever you do, please do not annoy me with a blinking icon all day if while I'm trying to get stuff done :-0
