This bug was fixed in the package hostname - 3.04ubuntu1

---------------
hostname (3.04ubuntu1) maverick; urgency=low

  * Merge from debian unstable (LP: #590481), remaining changes:
    - Install Upstart job to set hostname on startup, but do not run it in
      postinst.
    - Build-depend on newer debhelper for Upstart-aware dh_installinit.

hostname (3.04) unstable; urgency=low

  * Don't strip domain before resolving it for a fqdn hostname. (Closes:
    #573375)
  * Bumped Standards-Version to 3.8.4, no changes needed.
