This list hasn't been used in awhile, so should you no longer wish to receive emails about ubuntu and google summer of code and google code in, please feel free to unsubscribe. You can do so at https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-soc.
For those still interested, we are reviving this list in order to communicate and coordinate our efforts around Google Code In (and fingers crossed, perhaps google summer of code again next year). For now, we have been accepted as an organization in GCI, which starts next Monday. You can find out more information on the community site, http://community.ubuntu.com/contribute/google-code-in/.

We are currently still recruiting mentors to add tasks and help introduce students to the wonderful world of open source. For those of you who have participated in google summer of code efforts in the past, do note GCI is much less intense, and does not involve the direct mentoring like GSOC. Instead, GCI is focused on short tasks, that are intended to be largely self-sufficient, with the mentor providing some assistance and then ultimately reviewing the work. If you want to learn more about being a mentor, check out the wiki page: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/GoogleCodeIn.

In addition to this mailing list, we have setup the IRC channel of #ubuntu-google on freenode for use to discuss GCI and potential efforts for GSOC next year.

We'd love to have your thoughts, help and participation in this endeavor. Let me know if you are interested. Thanks!
