My Backup/System restore idea

Hi Sam,
Backup seems to be something people have been wrestling with for a long
while now and there are some pretty comprehensive solutions.
I use apt:sbackup, which does everything that you said - full hard drive
backups with exceptions and inclusions, does logarithmic backups, etc.
To make matters better, it has support for restore, and also loads back the
list of installed packages during backup time and reinstalls them. Perhaps
it's a good idea to assess what's already there rather than start over from
scratch.
Maybe it's a good idea to see what tools you can already leverage - tar,
rsync, ssh, git, scp, etc - rather than write a pure-python version to
reimplement standard unix functionality.
Disclaimer: I'm not a mentor, and am not too experienced. You should get a
second opinion on this!
Thanks,
Anirudh
