If you are on a small hdd, you should start with gnome-core and install
component by component as you require.<div><div></div><div class="Wj3C7c"><br>

<div dir="ltr">yeah, after these 2 recent episodes with "not enough
diskspace" and "restart your pc (and bork your system)" i think we need
to get ubuntu devs to start upgrading ubuntu on EeePC 4GB (ie. SMALL
hard disks) so that they know that these things actually happen. (I
believe they are working on super high end PCs with tons of disk space
so they will probably never come across these problems at all.)<br>

as for deb testing, i am supposed to be Ubuntu-SG leh... hehehe<br>

<div bgcolor="#ffffff" text="#000000">I think Rykel brought up a
real problem. The "restart your pc" icon in
Ubuntu is often misleading and tells you to reboot at the wrong time.<br>
<br>
Does this sound like a possible bug report to you?<br>
<br>
Rykel, try to use the commandline for stuff. It saves you a lot of
trouble down the road. Better yet, switch to Debian Testing.<br>

I now remember what happened... my upgrade manager was doing some
"cleaning up" (ie. ldconfig or something) but the "Restart your PC"
icon was in the Notification Area and I just rebooted my system
accordingly.<br>
<br>
Tada! There goes the mouse and keyboard. hehee : )<br>
<br>
The funny thing is - I could use the keyboard properly when I switch to
the commandline virtual screens, so I knew something in my xorg has
borked.<br>

Anyway, I went for a fresh format & reinstall so no more problem
already.<br>

<br>
I am not sure what's happening but yesterday Ubuntu did an upgrade and<br>
next thing I know is, my mouse and keyboard no longer works... :(<br>
<br>
Without them, I cannot even diagnose the problem... but curiously, I<br>
can go into the virtual screens using just Alt-F1~F6 (instead of<br>
Ctrl-Alt-F1~F6)... so perhaps I can solve the problems through the<br>
commandline.<br>
<br>
Thank you for helping!<br>
