From hyperair at ubuntu.com Sun Nov 3 13:10:38 2013 From: hyperair at ubuntu.com (Chow Loong Jin) Date: Sun, 3 Nov 2013 21:10:38 +0800 Subject: [Ubuntu-SG] HackerspaceSG is moving! Message-ID: <20131103131038.GC22227@gmail.com> Hi all, As some of you may know, HackerspaceSG, the home for many of our meetups since 2009, is moving to a new location, and is in need of assistance, financially or otherwise. Below is a message I am forwarding from HackerspaceSG: --------------------------------------->8--------------------------------------- Hello fellow hackers and friends of HackerspaceSG, The purpose of this email is to ask you to pledge your financial support towards the continuity of a physical Hackerspace. The location is still being finalised, you may also decided to pledge right now at http://goo.gl/nOo4Fr HackerspaceSG was founded with the aim being a home to us hackers. Over the past four years, we have been the launchpad for events like BarCampSG and GeekcampSG and we’ve played host to the Python Platoon, the Ruby Brigade, the PHP Meetup, iOS Dev Scout, CodeAndroid, Hack and Tell and more. We’ve been enlightened by the Humanist Society and been entertained by the Ukulele Meetup. Our members have given back to the community with workshops on both hardware and software, and we’ve even been home to successful startups like Viki. When HackerspaceSG first launched in 2009, we asked the community to pledge their support by committing to a 6-month membership. It was thanks to the pledged funds and our wonderfully supportive community that we have been able able to get our very own hackerspace up and running. It’s at this critical juncture that we’d like to reach out to our community for support. On November 14, our lease at 70A Bussorah Street will end. However, this is not the end of HackerspaceSG. Our community members are already hard at work planning our next steps and an active search is on going for what will be our new home. (To be part of that effort, do check out our HSG Moving Out task list on Trello: goo.gl/SZmstP) We’d really like to move into a place that can support a wide diversity of hackers (yes, hardware guys, we hear you!) [1], but we need time, and importantly, we need the resources to be able to fund the move and the potential renovations involved. Once again, we humbly ask for your support so that we may find the resources to move into a new place and continue serving the community that has grown together through all these years. We’re looking at raising about SGD 40,000 for the initial 6 month runway (rent and operating expenses). To help HackerspaceSG continue to serve the community, we kindly ask your support to make a pledge over at http://goo.gl/nOo4Fr. Thank you for taking the time to read this and feel free to share this. Ruiwen, on behalf of HackerspaceSG PS.
