I would like to be a in the team too and I believe if some of us here who is willing to spend an hour or two for keeping the site updated, it will be sufficient to keep it alive. I am not a strong website admin whiz but I can provide many other write ups & posting about Ubuntu. Hope to see more ppl out there join in asap. If there are any member who is able to volunteer some time to maintain the website will be good enough. If not, we can switch to use the Team Wiki to establish the team instead. I would love to see some active participation from other team members. Be it a first timer, novice or an expert, if you are willing to contribute, just do it. The team will not survive without the help and voluntary contribution from everyone. I know some of us are busy with work or school, I hope you will be able to spare some time to keep the team moving. As for me, I have to apologise for not being able to spare enough time. I am busy preparing for my big day which is next month. I hope you guys can understand. To make things a bit clearer on how the team works: 1) All talk and no action does not improve things 2) If you can contribute, just do it 3) There is no leader or supreme commander overlooking the whole operation except maybe Ubuntu LoCo committee, so what ever you want to do, if you are not sure, ask in the mailing list. 4) Remember, a small contribution goes a long way.... I just attempted to update the site to the latest version of Drupal so as to address the security issues. I discovered that I no longer have access to either PHPAdmin nor the ftp server on the host. Ergo, I can not really do anything to update the site. Our host administrator is currently in national service. When he will be able to get back to us is unknown. AFAIK, Heidir and I are the only ones with full administrator access to the site proper. We can work with the site as it is currently configured, but we cannot update it, add functionality, etc. As well, neither of us has the time to do much with it anyway. Heidir suggested to use the Team Wiki (https://wiki.ubuntu.com/SingaporeTeam) to maintain a presence on the web. This is a good idea. IMHO, the current site should be deactivated until it can be properly maintained, and a link referring visitors to the Team Wiki would be easy enough to include. However, I do not want to force that on everyone. So, if I could get everyone's feedback on the issue one last time, I would appreciate it. Your choices are: 1. Deactivate http://ubuntu.sg and redirect visitors to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/SingaporeTeam 2. Leave things as they are and hope for developments in the future. However, CDR's email of 06:56 this morning raises other more serious concerns, namely the unreliability/uncontactability of the web-host. To be deprived of basic website admin privileges/functionalities is - imho - a rather serious handicap. Given the state of Open Source today, we don't need fanciful and esoteric features and functionalities, just access to basic ones, and ability to change configurations and add functionalities are pretty basic. Yes, we can leave things as they are, but we should also actively explore boosting the reliability of the current web-host or seriously consider moving to one that is more dependable/accessible. I tried setting up a small browsing center with Ubuntu. Those who just browse and check mail don't care if its Windows as long as they are able to get what they want. Likewise the kids will not care as well. This will help to get rid of the strong stereo typing that MS is Good and all others are not so good. let me know if I can be of help. Perhaps we could transfer it to another site first? Secondly, I do not know the reason behind running drupal but perhaps we could also run on wordpress as well? Should be easier to update consider it is targeted at bloggers? As I mentioned, changing back to wiki is not the right choice as this is just a sign of us not being able to get enough people who can contribute time for the LoCo. The site is a sign of each and everyone of us contributing to the LoCo team and make further plans look more realistic. cheers, with regards, Yi hao On Tue, Jan 5, 2010 at 11:55 AM, Chen Xiangpeng wrote: > Hi guys, > > I agree with Francis.
