interesting topic that caught my eye, use the add programs, i think there's a gui ver of putty you could install and get the job done oh yeah just specify in the connection tab /dev/USB0 i think, can't remember, did it a long time ago..but after a while u'll kinda do everything from within your console...
oh and a word of caution not all the usb2serial converters works yeah..u might wanna be on the look out for that.

P.S there's alot of utilities within ubuntu that could help with cisco, surprised that some ppl are not aware after using ubuntu for long.
