Perhaps, you could be a demonstrator? After Chew's or my presentation, you could show the compiz effects, some games, evolution appointment reminder or something to demo to the users? MS Office on top of WINE?

I am trying to get an Nvidia capable laptop to be used for the demonstration. While Mr. Chew's laptop will used for presentation.

Hi,

I'm not sure whether its right to talk about FOSS, since we are suppossed to talk about Ubuntu. Mr. Chew, care for a suggestion?

Good point, Thanh Son did ask for a presentation on GNU/Linux. You and Chew have the basics covered, though. Hmmm, really, with four topics, do we really need another presentation? Perhaps I should just prep my laptop with multiple *buntus for demonstration purposes or otherwise support your efforts?

I admit that I am at a loss for a great idea here. As well, the volume of activity associated with SFDS08 at this point means I probably do not have much, if any, time to prepare a presentation. My suggested topics were taken directly from the things I know I will be setting up for Installfest, so I felt I'd be able to talk and demo without to much additional effort.

About the cart you are talking about, I'm sure you are referring to the carts that was given away when you purchased a printer during COMEX 2008. It can either be pulled behind or pushed, and it can be folded to be carried easily.

Yes, that is the one. In the US it is called a hand truck, in France "un cabas". I'm not sure what the correct term is in Singapore.

Unfortunately I gave mine away to a friend. I'm not sure where you could buy it. You could try Sim Lim Square, or Funan IT Mall - Challenger?

All the best.

Heidir

Thanks

Just wondering if anyone is covering the history of OSS. Might be good to do a short intro.

Cheer,
Tom Goh

Also a possibility, but perhaps not having the same impact as stuff I could demonstrate on my laptop(s). (I asked Richard, Raymond and Linus to drop by, but they said they were too busy watching Seinfeld and Gates on Youtube. (8-> )

I did consider "A brief history of GNU/Linux" but dragging along my computer museum may be more than I can manage when transported by taxi.

BTW, does anyone know of a good place to by a hand truck or cart (I'm not sure what the correct term is in Singapore)? Something I could stack my gear on to wheel it back and forth. Two wheels, stands by itself, tip to roll, popular with Aunties going shopping.

Good Morning TUSG,

OK, because I'm sort of ornery (just ask my mother) my proposed presentation, to follow those of Chew and Heidir, is "FOSS is not just GNU/Linux!" What I'll cover, super-briefly:

	* FOSS for Windows
	* Other OSes (*BSDs, Minix; Open Solaris will already be covered by Thanh Son most likely)
	* Applications of the Free & Open Source concept to other domains (biology and hardware, for example, but also Creative Commons). What do you think?

Hello Chew,

OK, I'll see what I can do by way of a presentation topic. It will need to be something I can put together with minimal time expended, given the impressive list of tasks I have still outstanding. I'll cogitate a bit and then propose a topic to you and Heidir. Since you two have the Ubuntu advocacy covered, I should focus on something more generally GNU/Linux, don't you think?

Cheers

hi CDR
At the moment, we have the following presentation topics:
1. Why Ubuntu? About the Ubuntu way. >> Chew
2. Introduction to Ubuntu desktop and applications. >> Heider
3.. Compiz Fusion demo.. >> Chew
4. Where to get Ubuntu? Joining the Ubuntu community. >> Chew

The list of topics might still change, since Heidir can't make up his mind.

K. Sitt has mentioned he can't make it in time, due to work commitment.

It will be great if you could add a presentation to the list.

regards
Chew
