[Ubuntu-SG] NTFS Harddisk

Hi guys,
I know this is *really* off-topic and mabbe even taboo, but you guy are my
ubuntu family and so IT-endowed that mabbe u know wat is my problem... (i
also dont hang around windows crowd so I dun really know where else to ask
this question..)   :P

you see, I have this NTFS hard disk tat got dropped on the floor once, and
now, when I do a "surface check" thru' Windows XP, it hangs at Phase 5 and
it seems to hang forever!! (eg. I started the check on Wednesday night, and
it is now FRIday night, and still not complete!)

My question is - how long does it take to "surface check" a 160GB NTFS hard
disk??
