how to apply these upgrades?

Hello Rajeev,

You can use apt-get for that (i don't use aptitude that much).

'apt-get install mysql-client-5.5 mysql-server-5.5 
mysql-server-core-5.5' will upgrade your mysql packages and leaves java 
only (except it is a dependency of mysql but I doubt that).
