\H in PS1 does not display fqdn

Is that true?

my current bash man-page states: 

PROMPTING
[...]
\h     the hostname up to the first `.'
\H     the hostname
[...]

which would make sense that \H would be the FQDN, but this is not required.

I've just checked it on a CentOS 5.3 machine and \H is there also only the 
host name, NOT the FQDN.
