Deploying server architectures (was: About server packages)

I seem to be completely unable to find a list of packages in RHEL, but I
still don't understand why Ubuntu is discarded for not having a recent
Snort, but RHEL (which you say doesn't have a snort package *at* *all*)
is not discarded.

Well, yes, it does. Ubuntu Server uses the same repository as "regular"
Ubuntu, so the libraries are indeed available.

from Ubuntu in order to support these things? AFAIK, it's all there
already.

excellent security support and also a very capable commercial support
centre.
