FakeRAID is never necessary (unless you can't install Windows in 
software RAID1). It serves no use under Linux since the processor/driver 
still does all the work. With Linux software RAID you get the same 
performance (or maybe even higher) with better software tools and no 
need for special and complex driver setups.
