Actually, what about a chance to customize/define VCS at install time? I have 
limited knowledge about how that could be done, but if you think that's 
doable and can give me directions, I'd be glad to work on it. Ideally it 
doesnt sound too hard to implement, maybe with an .udeb? It'd be just a 
matter of adding a step to the installation process asking for a VCS name and 
installing it.
Or do you consider this overkill since one can always easily replace it later?
Also, could this be problem for the 5-years support plan? I'm not sure what 
that covers, and /etc under VCS sounds like something included in it, so 
should be done with an officially supported package.
