Debian tried it, and disabled this support again because it pulled in
too many dependencies: https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-

Samba 4.12.x has another spotlight backend, elastic search:

I'm not a macos user so I'm not sure how these are used or which one is
best. I'll rely on the community to chime in here.
