appears to be the issue.

  Subprocess the new pre-installation script is destroyed by the signal (Channel termination)

Do you see any other errors or messages around this time? For dpkg to be
killed by a signal implies something else may be the root cause. I see
mention of a possible disk needing checking, for instance.
