Could you try this using upstream qemu?

git clone http://git.qemu.org/git/qemu.git
cd qemu
sudo apt-get -y build-dep qemu
./configure --target-list=ppc64-softmmu
make
cd ppc64-softmmu
./qemu-system-ppc64 [...]
