The output in your log is:

Preparing to unpack .../rpcbind_0.2.1-6ubuntu3_amd64.deb ...
Error getting authority: Error initializing authority: Could not connect: No such file or directory (g-io-error-quark, 1)
Error getting authority: Error initializing authority: Could not connect: No such file or directory (g-io-error-quark, 1)
Failed to stop rpcbind.service: Transaction order is cyclic. See system logs for details.
invoke-rc.d: initscript rpcbind, action "stop" failed.

According to this bug report,
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=89289 the first of these
messages appears to be related to systemd, although probably is not due
to exactly the same bug reported there.

It does appear that you are running systemd on 14.10. This is not a
supported configuration in 14.10, because systemd was only partially
supported by certain key services (such as the rpc stack). So we can't
provide support for an upgrade failure caused by running systemd on
14.10.
