After upgrading to the latest version (php5 5.5.9+dfsg-1ubuntu4.5), PHP throws a seg fault when trying to shutdown.
The issue can be reproduced by running php -v
Output:

Gdb reveals that the seg fault was thrown in the php_module_shutdown() function.
