this also affects me, i'm running Xubuntu 14.04.1. I expect screen to launch from an init script that I have setup which is here http://paste.ubuntu.com/9029872/  but I see in /var/log/boot.log that it can't create the screen session, it returns
Cannot make directory '/var/run/screen': Permission denied

Please fix. thank you
