This might be a bug of either unixodbc or libmyodbc package.

Context: 
* Ubuntu 12.04.3 Server 64bit
* mySQL cluster accessed with HaProxy
* Distribution-supplied  unixodbc and libmyodbc packages
* Application: package shibboleth v.2.5.x from http://pkg.switch.ch/switchaai/ubuntu repository (see https://www.switch.ch/aai/docs/shibboleth/SWITCH/2.5/sp/deployment/?os=ubuntu)

Output:
